In this region there are many beaches. First of all, in the region of Akrotiri there are three beautiful beaches, each one of them close to the others. Those beaches are Kalathas, Stavros and Marathi and it is very easy to reach them, as they are only a few km away from the center of Chania. Another beach you should visit is Georgioupoli, which lies on the road from Chania to Rethymno. On this road you will come across some other beaches, where you could also swim (Kalami, Kalives). The only lake of Crete lies a few km away from Georgioupoli, on the south. This lake is called lake of Kournas.
