The old harbour is probably the most well known spot in the town of Chania. The Venetian lighthouse on the entrance of the harbor is the trademark of Chania. So, do not forget to visit the old harbor, as it is certain that you will like the pleasant atmosphere of the narrow streets of the Old Town. In those alleys you will find many kinds of shops, taverns and bars. There are also many cafeterias on the old harbor, where you can enjoy the view, during having a cup of coffee. The harbour comes into its own at night, when the lights from bars and restaurants reflect in the water and the animated crowds - locals as much as tourists - parade in a ritualistic volta of apparently perpetual motion. There are stalls set up on the waterside, and buskers serenading the passers-by. The old town of Chania lies right above the old harbor. It is worthwhile visiting the old town and its beautiful catwalks (little streets only for pedestrians), where you can find many kinds of shops : from little shops that sell handmade cretan things, to restaurants with live music and very nice rooms for renting with exceptional view of the old harbor. Part of the old town is Stvanadika, a street full of leather shops. There traditional leathermakers still ply their trade, and although many are now geared to tourists, prices for leatherware remain the best in Crete - and there are still a few shops which ignore sandals and bags in favour of traditional high Cretan boots and hefty work shoes. Obviously, the old town of Chania can host every possible activity you might want to do!
